The Miele Guide. The List You Want To Be On.

I’m a pretty happy camper right now. The new 2013 edition of the Miele Guide  has just been released and my original Bali baby, Sarong, has been awarded a place in the coveted ‘ Top 20 in Asia’ list again.

This year we hit the list at Number 13. Last year we were at Number 18, so we’ve jumped quite a few pegs up since then.

Needless to say, the Miele Guide Awards are a big deal. Red carpet, trophies, all the major players in the South East Asian high-end culinary world, from Joel Robuchon (who took out first place, and deservedly so) and the ever-gracious Tetsuya, to one of my favourites, David Thompson, who took home the coveted Chef of Chefs title.

Will post some pics of the big night next week, so stay tuned for some red carpet moments, industry insight and a few good laughs from a huge night of celebrations with a bunch of the best chef’s on this side of the world. We ate. We drank. We won. It wasn’t boring. I’ll tell you that. Not exactly Chefs Gone Wild. But a brilliant night nonetheless.

No time for resting on our laurels though. After a few days in Singapore, my partner in kitchen crime, Palm, is heading back to Bali to hold the forte at Mama San and Sarong, and I’m on my way back to Jakarta now for more work on the new resto there.

What do they say, no rest for the wicked (or a chef, truth be told!) ….

WM.
